Derived from the Icelandic word for ‘inhabit’, Bua is an architectural studio with a love of nature and craft. With an instinctive, collaborative and hands on approach, Bua refine and elevate everyday spaces to create unique homes and places.

The studio has to date realised a number of ambitious and concept-driven projects, including the renovation of an Icelandic farmhouse and cultural centre and transformative residential projects in the UK and Italy.

Since no two projects are the same, solutions are thoughtfully tailored. Extending beyond the bare bones of the traditional architectural scheme, each of Bua's designs responds holistically to a client’s needs – focusing not only on the overall plan and structure of a building, but also the subtle details that often become its hallmarks.

From original joinery to traditional Icelandic tiling, the studio sources and crafts bespoke elements that lend each design its unmistakable sense of place.

Studio Bua provide a complete service, believing that it is through close collaboration with contractors that they can add the most value in nurturing a project from plan to build. That’s why they take an active role in monitoring a build’s progress, ensuring they are on site to see ideas faithfully executed and respond flexibly to any idiosyncrasies that may crop up in the process.
